Our purpose is to present proven factual data about the different types of addictive chemical substances (drugs) to young people and to explain the effects they have on the body and mind so that these people can come to an informed self-determined decision regarding the use of them.
Narconon Victoria Drug Education Services is a non-profit organisation and is registered in Victoria as a charity. The word Narconon comes from “narco” meaning drugs and “non” meaning no.
What we do:
Our presenters travel around the country and give talks, mainly at schools, to children from age 7 through to teenage about what drugs are and what they do. There are two main talks, one for ages 7 to 12, and another more advanced comprehensive talk for the 12 to teenage group. The whole purpose of the talks is to calmly and with a little humour explain about drugs so the students can make up their own minds about them. We do not preach, scare or rant about drugs or tell them what their decisions should be towards them.
In other words we do not try to make their decisions for them or tell them what they should think as we have found that that method is totally ineffective and more often than not has the entirely opposite result. We have however, found, that giving them the respect to make a sound decision of their own and armed with some straight information and data on the subject gets far better results. In more cases than not, we have found that a longer lasting decision to stay away from drugs and their totally debilitating and destructive effects take place.
Results:
The results from this philosophy are working out in practice and we are therefore greatly encouraged to bring these talks to as many schools as possible. Please click here for feedback testimonials both in Australia and around the world
